Leadership
Robert Johnson
Robert Johnson is the President and Founder of RDJ Construction. Robert was born in Fort Myers, FL and is a lifelong resident of Southwest Florida. His connection to construction began early as his father was one of the first certified general contractors in Lee County. This led Robert to earn a bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida and a State of Florida Certified General Contractor License. Robert is a 2nd generation contractor and provides an in-depth, intuitive understanding of the construction industry.
After completing his degree at the University of Florida, Robert returned to Fort Myers, FL to start his career in managing commercial and healthcare projects for other construction firms. Robert gained valuable experience and founded RDJ Construction in 2000. With over 40 years of construction management experience, Robert brings extensive understanding to the construction process. Robert has led the company with a clear focus to deliver exceptional construction services with integrity, and a commitment to excellence. RDJ Construction’s strong foundation has been built on the principles of meticulous service and quality. This approach proves the success of building new and lasting relationships with all our clients.
RDJ Construction’s focus is on Commercial, Healthcare, Institutional, Senior Living, and certain Residential sectors. RDJ has successfully completed projects for many major organizations in Southwest Florida, such as Lee Health, NCH Healthcare System, Shell Point Retirement Community, Radiology Regional Centers, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida Southwestern State College, Lee County School District, and others.
Growing up in the construction business, Robert learned early on the value of hard work and doing things the right way. That legacy continues in the way RDJ Construction operates today—prioritizing long-term relationships, high standards, and dependable results. As a family-run business, RDJ stands out for its personalized service and unwavering focus on client satisfaction.
Outside of work, Robert enjoys traveling, following his favorite sports teams (Florida Gators), listening to jazz, and spending time with his wife, children, and three beautiful grandchildren.
Matthew D. Johnson
Matthew Johnson brings a lifetime of hands-on experience and leadership to his role as Vice President and Director of Construction at RDJ. His journey with the company began early—working in the field throughout high school and college—before officially joining the office team in 2012 as an Assistant Project Manager.
Matthew earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Florida, and soon after became a licensed general contractor in the state of Florida. His strong aptitude for project planning and natural leadership quickly earned him a promotion to Project Manager, where he took the lead on approximately 50% of all RDJ Construction’s projects.
His project portfolio includes a wide range of complex assignments, such as AHCA and multi-phased AHCA-inspected projects, education, and outpatient medical facilities, senior living communities, high-end residential builds, as well as both occupied and unoccupied interior renovations and new construction projects.
In his current role as Vice President, Matthew oversees the company’s Preconstruction planning, project management, and field operations. With deep industry knowledge and a commitment to quality, he plays a vital role in upholding RDJ Construction’s reputation for excellence—especially within its healthcare-focused construction niche.
